The business development director will build relationships and provide strategic direction to help drive agency growth and profit. The ideal candidate will identify and nurture agency prospects, finding compelling connections between their business needs and our services. He/She will be responsible for developing a pipeline of qualified and winnable business opportunities and working with the agency team to convert those opportunities into paying clients.
As our Director of Business Development, you’re a highly motivated, savvy, consultative sales professional that is looking to grow the agency as well as your career. You have an established network of relationships with decision-makers and a proven track record of bringing in new business as well as growing existing books of business while looking after the best interests of the agency. You’re a natural connector of people, and you actively seek out opportunities to identify the client’s challenges and unlock new possibilities for their business. You think strategically and act resourcefully when it comes to identifying new revenue streams. You’re passionate and driven and have a track record of exceeding revenue and client acquisition goals. You’re someone who writes with clarity and expressive technique and is just as comfortable meeting someone for lunch as you are presenting in front of a group. You’re always proactive, and don’t wait for orders or for the phone to ring. When presenting agency work and ideas, you communicate with confidence and a diplomatic authority, with preparedness to defend agency work where/when appropriate, and have the ability to build client and internal stakeholder trust organically. Most of all, you know what it takes to grow a business and are genuinely excited for the opportunity to be a part of something great.

Be the conductor among different areas within the agency to ensure we are delivering the best-integrated solutions for our clients.
Lead and manage new business opportunities from lead generation, prioritization, introductory meetings/capability conversations, proposal development, project scoping/staffing plans and budgets.
Identify opportunities to develop new relationships and have the experience, confidence, and insights to ask the right questions at the right times.
Cultivate and develop relationships with existing clients in order to facilitate organic growth and unparalleled service.
Know who to bring into initiatives and when.
Assist in the development of winning strategies for clients.
Be P&L centric – treat the agency as if it were your own
Prepare proposals.
Demonstrate exceptional presentation skills (both written and verbal) with confidence to present to large groups and senior executive/C-Suite client stakeholders.
Help develop budgets and estimates, assessing a blend of variables - similar projects, client appetite, value creation for the client, value creation for us, and what the market will bear. And then reconcile and resolve estimates to actuals.
Know when to ask questions. We believe in open, trusting communications.
Be a high-level communicator who doesn’t like to give or get surprises. Share updates with team lead on a daily or regular basis. Make leadership aware of any potential changes or problems early and actively formulate possible remedies.
Be a taskmaster with deliverables. Monitor the progress and implement necessary changes in an effective and timely manner.
Be timely overall. With everything and everyone. Clients, colleagues, accounting,
co-creators, vendors, etc.
Maintain financial targets (revenue and profit) that you have set jointly with leadership. Generate client growth by pro-actively directing the development of new ideas and recommendations.

7-10 years of proven experience leading business growth - ideally in a social impact, B-Corp, and/or complex professional services and/agency environment
Proven success scaling a company or business unit
Skilled in selling across a portfolio of complex services (e.g. integrated campaigns)
Ability to lead and motivate a team around growth and revenue targets
Excellent leadership and managerial skills
Results-oriented - holds themselves accountable for short- and long-term success
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Strong background of operational and financial rigor and excellence
